The Music Ministry of Trinity

The Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir is a group of dedicated people who lead music at morning services from the Sunday after Labour Day, in September, to the end Sunday in June of each year. New members are always welcome.

To become a member we ask that you enjoy singing, sing moderately well (sight-singing is not essential but beneficial, however the ability to carry a tune is necessary), and commit to regular attendance for Thursday rehearsals and Sunday worship.

Besides singing at Sunday worship, the choir presents special musical events throughout the year. These events include the Advent Lessons and Carols service and at least one major concert, often featuring a cantata or oratorio.

Thursday evening rehearsals are full of music, fun and fellowship. We begin and end with prayer, do a lot of singing and laugh as much as possible.

The choir holds an annual retreat in the early fall at which time we get to know each other better and sing through much of the music we will present throughout the fall season. During the year we hold a number of parties (yes we do love fun!) and sing at weddings or funerals when requested.

Consider joining us. Contact any choir member or our Director of Music Ministry, Daniel Zondervan.

The Sanctuary Pipe Organ

Music has always played a central role in worship at Trinity.  Pivotal to this role is our wonderful Woodstock Organ built in 1928. The organ contains pipe work from an organ previous to the Woodstock, probably by D. W. Kaan with Casavant additions made in the 1957 and 1961. A rebuilt console was added in 1963.

In 2003 a report from Dodington & Dodington, our organ maintenance company revealed that parts of the organ were wearing out, the console was no longer working with any consistency, and the pipe work needed some tonal restoration.

With the approval of church council and the congregation we began a major restoration of the instrument. The project is completed and all bills have been paid.

Some of the specific work done:

• rebuilding the console with new solid state electronic controls replacing the existing pneumatics.

• installation a Walker Tonal Generator to provide additional stops to complete the tonal registration of the organ.

• rebuilding the Swell box (enclosure for the Swell pipes) for more tonal flexibility.

• revoicing and regulation the many flue and reed stops to make the sound more consistent.

Many thanks to those who have given so generously to the restoration of the organ. The organ will continue to lead our congregation in worship for years to come.

Grand Piano

Our sanctuary is now home to a wonderful, new 7 foot Kawai grand piano. A gift from the estate of long-time member, Jean Caya, this fabulous instrument has already added greatly to the worship at Trinity.

Children’s Music

Our children’s music ministry is concentrated during Church School time on Sunday mornings. The children learn new songs, some of which we use in worship in the sanctuary.

Other Music Programs

There is always room for people to volunteer in other musical areas. We are currently compiling a list of instrumentalists who would like to play on an occasional basis at Sunday worship. Who knows, this could be the start of a Trinity orchestra.

We are also gathering names of people who are interested in forming a “Drum Choir”. There was much interest and enthusiasm by members of the congregation when a small initial group of drummers played on Worldwide Communion Sunday. We hope to have at least one group formed by the end of 2005.

If you are interested and available to participate in any of these ways please contact our Director of Music Ministry.

Music at Trinity

Music at Trinity is a series of special musical events featuring guest artists, members of our congregation, and the Chancel Choir.

Trinity Choral Scholars

The Chancel Choir has always played an important part in worship at Trinity. To assist in the continuation of this tradition we have started a choral scholar program.

The choral scholars are required to attend all rehearsals, worship services, and special musical events. They support the rest of the choir by knowing the music well, singing with professional confidence, and helping those who have less experience or talent. They are also required to sing at special events such as the “Music at Trinity” concert series.

The choral scholars are provided with an honorarium financed through the regular church budget, special donations, and the Music Trust Fund.

The present choral scholars are: soprano Kim Allred, and baritone Ryan Vallee. We are always eager to welcome choral students from the K-W community to our choir.

This program has proven to be a blessing for all. Trinity Church receives the benefits of wonderful musical talent and the singers receive some financial help with their studies and experience in singing before people.

Trinity Choral Scholars CDs

As part of their university music program, choral scholars are required to present recitals or prepare audition material. As a further fund-raiser for our scholars, copies of these recitals and auditions are made available, in CD format, to those who would like them. The cost is by donation (suggested minimum of $15) with the total proceeds going to the choral scholar who produced the CD.  Orders are taken through the music office at the church (742-3578 x 4). CDs are reproduced as requested.

Current CDs available are:

Judith Bouchard Recital, with her mother as accompanist - recorded in     Quebec City on August 27, 2005

 Jean-Pierre Ouellet Audition – recorded November 2005
