Mission and Structure   

"Trinity United Church is a dynamic, inclusive  fellowship of faith, that worships God, embraces Christian values, and strives to serve as Christ's hands and voice in downtown Kitchener and beyond."

 Committee Structure & Governance

The overall governing body of the Church is the Church Council which in turn is responsible and accountable  to the Congregation.

Church Council membership consists of the Chairs and/or Co-Chairs of the Standing Committees, the lay representatives to Presbytery, a UCW representative, the Chair of the Board of Trustees and Minister(s) together with a minimum of 25 members elected from the congregation including the Immediate Past Chairperson, Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and Council Coordinators. Church Council is responsible for directing the life and work of and for providing leadership for the congregation.

To enable the Council to carry out its responsibilities, a number of Committees and Groups function to carry out the various plans and initiatives undertaken by the membership.

The Management Committee

The Management Committee membership consists of the Chairperson of Council, Vice-Chairperson, Immediate Past-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, Council Co-ordinators and Ministry Staff.  The Management Committee meets is required to set the Church Council meeting agenda, to ensure the plans of Council are carried out and to deal with matters requiring urgent attention when it is not possible to convene the Council.

The Christian Development Committee 

The Christian Development Committee is responsible for programs and activities which assist in nurturing the faith of Trinity members of all ages. This includes responsibility for the Church School, youth programs and adult education, for the church libraries, and as well, the organizing of intergenerational services. The committee meets monthly.

 The Communications Committee

The Communications Committee is responsible for the communication and publication of information within the church and throughout the community. The committee meets once each month to fulfill its mandate in a variety of ways such as

-publishing Trinity News

-organizing the congregation's photo directory

-photographing church events for publication

-assisting committees with visual displays

The Finance Committee

The Finance Committee oversees and manages the financial affairs of Trinity.  In consultation with other committees and staff, this committee sets annual financial objectives for the congregation and drafts the annual budget for presentation to the Council.  The committee also oversees the recording of contributions received and the disbursements as specified by its donor or as approved by Council.  The committee meets monthly.

The Membership Committee

The Membership Committee oversees all matters pertaining to active membership in the congregation.  This includes instruction for those preparing for baptism and/or profession of faith, orientation sessions for newcomers and the maintaining of the historic roll.  Our goal is to create a happy, welcoming and supportive community of faith where new people are encouraged to become members.  This committee meets monthly.

The Ministry and Personnel Committee

 The Ministry and Personnel Committee is responsible for maintaining regular communication with the Ministers and other staff of the church, to consider their concerns and offer assistance wherever possible to enable them to effectively carry out their duties. The committee meets regularly, as required, and at least once per year the committee carries out an annual review pertaining to the Ministers and other church staff.  Salary adjustments are considered at this time, in connection with the completion of the proposed annual budget for the church.

 Whenever necessary, the committee concerns itself with the replacement of staff members who have left their employment with the church, or who are absent due to illness or injury.

 Pastoral Care Committee

 The function of the Pastoral Care Committee and its teams is to assist the minister(s) in providing pastoral care for the congregation of Trinity.  The congregation is divided into districts in order to keep the number of people assigned to a Pastoral Visitor or Careliner at a reasonable level.

Pastoral Care teams and their responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Pastoral Care Visitors:     Visit and maintain close contact with the members in their assigned district.

  2. Careliners:           Phone the members in their assigned districts twice yearly.

  3. Posties:  Deliver mail to those unable to pick up their mail from Trinity

  4. Hospital Care:  Visit Trinity people who are in one of the local hospitals.

  5. Companioning:    Spend from several weeks to several months Accompanioning a Trinity member in crisis.

  6. Drivers:     Provide rides to those who need a ride to Sunday morning worship.

  7. Home Communion:               Give in-home communion to those who are unable to attend church or chapel communion

The Property Committee

 The Property Committee is responsible for repair and upgrading the physical church property.  It carries out an ongoing program of preventative maintenance of all mechanical components and exposed interior and exterior surfaces. 

 The committee is also responsible for identifying and implementing renovations and additions to the church building and equipment.  Other areas of responsibility include parking and liaising with outside groups that use the building. 

The Social Concern & Outreach Committee

The Social Concern & Outreach Committee educates the congregation about local and worldwide needs and the missions of the church, and stimulates outreach giving and distributes outreach funds from the congregation.

The Stewardship Committee

 The Stewardship Committee is responsible for nurturing holistic Christian stewardship (the stewardship of time, talents, and treasure) in the congregation.  

The Worship Committee

The Worship Committee, in co-operation with the minister(s), is responsible for the order of service and pulpit supply, as well as music for worship.

 The Board of Trustees

 The Board of Trustees has full legal signing powers pertaining to church property and is responsible for its insurance.
