From Paul’s Letter to the Philippians:

Finally beloved, whatever is true, whatever is honourable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.  Keep on doing the things that you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, and the God of peace will be with you.

The Appreciative Inquiry Process

About 50 members of the congregation attended a retreat in January and experienced this process.

We came away enthused and energized by the sharing in small groups.  We know you will find it equally empowering.

In our ongoing work of discernment of God’s dream for Trinity United Church, Church Council has adopted a process of  Appreciative Inquiry or AI.

This long title simply means recalling our best memories of life at Trinity to discover those times which were life-giving to us as a congregation.  Believing that the life-giving parts of our history were God’s work among us, we hope that in examining them, we can discern God’s hopes for our future.

A sample question might be:

Remembering your entire experience at Trinity, when were you – not the church – most active, excited, involved?

These stories then help to shape our future.

Sign up today or indicate your interest in finding a group which suits your availability.

The process has four parts:

Initiate – The preparatory, planning stage which has already begun

Inquire – You are invited to participate in a small group, one session of about 90 minutes. Through guided discussion you will be asked to share your best memories.

Imagine - These stories will be recorded and searched for common life-giving themes.

Innovate - By the Fall we can begin dreaming of and implementing new possibilities. We allow the best of our past to take us into the future.

The practice of positive attitudes, of thanksgiving and gratitude are central themes in scripture. As people of faith we believe that God has been and is at work in our midst, and these conversations are one way of becoming open to God’s Spirit.
